Professional Profile of F. H. Eschbach

Engineer and Programmer for Realtime/Embedded Control
1998/10/28

Here is some background information about my professional education as well as an overview about skills and experiences grown during my professional career.

As educational systems and degrees are often different in various countries I added German nomenclature in parenthesis for accuracy, in case you are familiar with German educational system(s).

I studied the Technique of Communications at Karlsruhe Polytechnical High-School ("Staatliche Ingenieurschule") for 3 years and received a good Diploma as an Engineering Graduate ("Ing.grad. der Nachrichtentechnik").

I started my professional career in 1969 as an employed hardware design engineer in Karlsruhe. Later (in parallel to my day-time work as an employee) I studied Economics at local University visiting evening classes, and finished this after 3 years with a good Diploma as a Management Expert ("Betriebswirt VWA"). The purpose of this extra education was to prepare for my switch to a free-lance engineer, which I started in 1976, developing microprocessor based controllers and systems of various kinds, designing both hardware, firmware, and software for.

I will try to give an overview about hardware, firmware, and software I developed since 1969:

As soon as I designed hardware based on uP's and uC's, I succesively started to develop software (in assembler languages) as well, so for all of the application fields mentioned above I also wrote the controller/terminal software (both operating systems and application programs).

I not only designed embedded controllers, but also made and make system concepts for larger applications in the fields mentioned above, additionally managing design, production, documentation and installation of sub-systems, and specifying and co-ordinating application software development done by others.

For MS-DOS-PC-based systems I'm developing administration and test programs (for customers and for use in my own office, rsp. to perform function tests of hardware/software developed by me) in shell script languages, BASIC, (Turbo-)Pascal, and C; I'm also designing WWW pages in HTML.

I'm familiar with MSDOS, WIN*, UNIXes, OS-9, and with MacOs.

To summarize: my experience includes all phases of a project's life, from initial definition through design and prototyping, and on to full production utilizing subcontract assemblers. This way I'm able to develop general concepts for electronic/electro-mechanical/communication systems as well as to do detail work for specification, development of hardware (analog and digital, circuit board layout, and mechanical packaging design) firmware, and software for embedded controllers, documentation, production, and installation.
I'm open to do what has to be done, and I have good contacts to other professionals to assist.

I hope, this brief overview will give you an idea about my skills, and what part of the work to be done I could cover. If you need more information, please let me know.
